 The Kanthasruti Upanishad The Kanthasruti (or Kanthashruti) Upanishad is an alternative name or manuscript title for the Kathashruti Upanishad. It is a minor Upanishad belonging to the group of about 20 Sannyasa Upanishads (texts focused on renunciation) attached to the Krishna Yajurveda. In some southern Indian manuscripts it appears as the Katharudra Upanishad. Max Müller noted that Kanthashruti was sometimes treated as a misnomer for Kathasruti, though many manuscripts preserve the Kantha form. One proposed explanation links kantha (throat) to oral/memorized transmission (kanthastha).   Scholars place it in the early centuries of the Common Era (with possible roots in older Vedic renunciant traditions).
