Image
Document of RSS Surrender in  Emergency  1975 Immediately after the Emergency was declared, Indira Gandhi ordered the arrest of numerous ABVP and RSS members. Many evaded capture. RSS chief Balasaheb Deoras was arrested in Nagpur on June 30, 1975. On July 4, 1975, the government banned the RSS, marking its second ban since independence (the first was in 1948 after Gandhi’s assassination, when Sardar Patel banned the RSS and jailed 25,000 activists). Indira Gandhi’s government arrested approximately 44,000 RSS activists, of whom around 80 died in custody. From Yerwada Jail, Balasaheb Deoras wrote a letter of apology to Indira Gandhi, seeking release, but she ignored it. Deoras also wrote to Vinoba Bhave, requesting him to urge Indira to lift the ban and release RSS members. He attempted negotiations through Maharashtra Chief Minister S.B. Chavan. In Bengaluru, Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee were arrested. Vajpayee, citing health reasons, was released on parole and remai...

Declared Emergency vs. Undeclared Emergency

Declared Emergency vs. Undeclared Emergency  In 2014 and 2019, BJP got full majority under Narender Modi leadership, the true colours of their credentials became apparent. While the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi was in accordance with the norms of the Constitution, what we are now witnessing is an ‘undeclared Emergency’. In 2015, in an interview with journalist Shekhar Gupta of Indian Express , none other than BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani said, “Today it has been 40 years since the declaration of Emergency at that time. But for the last one year, an undeclared Emergency has been going on in India. ( Indian Express , June 26-27, 2015.) Today, many have been imprisoned for daring to speak the truth. Freedom of religion is going for a free-fall. Justice is being overtaken by ‘bulldozer justice’. The intimidation and torture of minorities on the pretext of ‘love jihad’, cow-beef is abominable. Many eminent social activists have been put behind the bars in the Bhima Koregaon...

Shakta Tantra

Image
Shakta Tantra   Shakta Tantra is a major tradition within Shaktism , one of the primary denominations of Hinduism. It centers on the worship of Shakti (divine feminine energy or power) as the Supreme Reality (Brahman), often personified as the Goddess (Devi) in forms like Durga, Kali, Parvati, Tripurasundari (Lalita), or the Ten Mahavidyas. Shaktism views Shakti as both the dynamic creative force of the universe and the path to liberation. It is one of the three main Hindu paths alongside Vaishnavism (Vishnu-focused) and Shaivism (Shiva-focused), and it is especially prominent in regions like Bengal, Assam, and parts of South India. Philosophy of  Shaktism Shakta Tantra is fundamentally non-dualistic ( Advaita ). The Goddess is the ultimate reality—immanent (present in all creation) and transcendent. She is Pure Consciousness, the origin and dissolution of the universe, both the binding power of illusion ( maya ) and the liberating knowledge that leads to realization: "I ...

Dhyana Yoga ( Yoga of Meditation)   Dhyana Yoga ( Yoga of Meditation ) a path of spiritual practice focused on mastering the mind through sustained contemplation and inner focus to achieve union with the divine or the Self. It appears in two major classical contexts: 1. Bhagavad Gita:  The chapter six is explicitly titled Dhyān Yoga in whch Lord Krishna teaches Arjuna the practical methods for meditation as a means to control the mind, attain equanimity, and realize the Self. Key teachings include: Mind as friend or enemy : A controlled mind is your best friend; an uncontrolled one is your worst enemy. Extreme renunciation (sannyasa) is difficult; karma yoga (selfless action) combined with meditation is more practical. Posture and setting : Sit firmly on a clean seat (neither too high nor low) in a secluded, sacred place. Keep the body, neck, and head straight, gaze gently at t...

Amit Shah: An effective political organiser

Image
Amit Shah: An effective political organiser Amit Shah was born in 1964 to a financially prosperous, upper-caste Gujarati family. His great-grandfather was the  nagarseth  – a phenomenally rich adviser to the ruling king – in the small princely state of Mansa, an hour’s drive from Ahmedabad. His childhood was spent in a  haveli,  the family mansion.  His father was the president of the Ahmedabad stock exchange, and the family business was in manufacturing pipes out of thermoplastic materials. Shah’s could easily have been a life of dealing stocks or goods, running a business operation of some sort. H e disclosed  to the Election Commission in 2024 that his stock holdings in 180 companies are worth more than $2m. Shah is an extremely effective political organiser. He is an obsessive micromanager. He has focused the BJP’s army of party members around the local polling booth, the smallest unit in the vast enterprise that is every Indian election. Over th...
