Hardeep Singh Puri, India's current Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and a senior BJP leader — appears multiple times in the recently released Jeffrey Epstein files (declassified US Department of Justice documents from late January/early February 2026).

His name comes up in emails, calendar entries, and scheduling records from 2014–2017, when Puri was a retired Indian diplomat (former Permanent Representative to the UN) who had just joined the BJP ahead of the Modi government's formation. Key details from the documents:

  • Email exchanges with Epstein starting in June 2014, where Epstein contacted Puri to facilitate a visit by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman to India.
  • Puri responded positively, sent detailed pitches promoting investment opportunities in India under the new Modi government (including "Digital India" initiatives), and urged Hoffman to visit sooner.
  • Puri visited Epstein's Manhattan townhouse at least three times: February 4, 2015; January 6, 2016; and May 19, 2017 (confirmed via Epstein's calendars and door logs).
  • In one email, Puri referred to Epstein's "exotic island" (widely interpreted as Little St. James), writing: “Please let me know when you are back from your exotic island” while trying to schedule a meeting and offering books on India.
  • "Puri" appears over 160 times across the released datasets.

Puri has publicly acknowledged meeting Epstein but described the interactions as purely professional and business-related (focused on attracting US tech investments to India). He has stated he distanced himself after learning more about Epstein's criminal background. There is no evidence in the files linking Puri to any sexual abuse, trafficking, flight logs to the island, or criminal activity — the mentions are entirely in the context of networking and investment discussions.

These details have been reported widely by sources including Al Jazeera, The Wire, The Juggernaut, TRT World, India Today, and others, with direct links to the DOJ documents (e.g., datasets on justice.gov/epstein/files). The connections occurred after Epstein's 2008 conviction, which has raised questions about judgment, but no wrongdoing by Puri is alleged or proven in the files.
